Chelsea has decided not to sign goalkeeper Mike Maignan from AC Milan, opting to stick with their current goalkeeping options.
Chelsea has reportedly decided not to pursue AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan in the next two transfer windows.
Despite Maignan’s impressive performances and his contract expiring in 2026, Chelsea explored a move for him in the summer but ultimately walked away due to Milan’s high asking price of €30 million. The Blues had offered around half of that amount, but Milan rejected their bids.
Maignan’s availability on a free transfer in 2026 had sparked interest from several top clubs, including Chelsea.
However, the London side seems to have moved on, focusing on their current goalkeeping options. Robert Sanchez has been inconsistent, but Chelsea’s manager Enzo Maresca appears to have faith in him, and he’s looked improved so far this term.
Chelsea’s decision to stick with their current goalkeepers might be due to the impressive form of Mike Penders, who has kept three clean sheets in eight games for Strasbourg. The club might be looking to promote Penders to the starting role or rely on Jorgensen as a backup option.
It’s worth noting that Chelsea had previously agreed on terms with Maignan, but the deal fell through due to the transfer fee. With Maignan set to become a free agent in 2026, Chelsea might be missing out on a top-class goalkeeper. However, the club seems confident in their current options for now.
