Manager Hansi Flick impressed by the England international’s contributions for the club so far

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has called on Marcus Rashford to make his mark back in England, with the forward in line to start Thursday’s Champions League opener against Newcastle United.

Rashford, on loan from Manchester United, is expected to come in on the left wing following an injury to Lamine Yamal, who has been ruled out with a groin problem. Raphinha is likely to move across to the right.

It will be Rashford’s second successive start after featuring in the 6-0 demolition of Valencia last weekend, where he looked dangerous and registered an assist.

He is still searching for his first goal since joining the Spanish champions, but Flick said he has been impressed by the England international’s early contributions.

“I have followed Marcus since he started at Manchester United,” he said. “I always said the kind of player he is was really unbelievable.

“He has speed, but also in one-v-one situations he is really fantastic. And also finishing. What I saw in the first weeks here is really good.

“He also has more potential he can show us. He wants to do this, of course. For me, it’s great to have him on my team.”
