Uli Hoeneß, Bayern Munich’s supervisory board member, has come forward to clarify his recent comments on the loan deal for Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson.

Hoeneß sparked controversy after revealing that the purchase option for Jackson would only be activated if the striker starts 40 games, and that Jackson and his agent covered €3 million of the €16.5 million loan fee. Some interpreted Hoeneß’ remarks as indirect criticism of board member Max Eberl.

However, Hoeneß insists that his intention was to support Eberl, who was accused of granting an obligation to buy option.

Hoeneß believes that Eberl was unfairly criticized for the deal, and he aimed to provide context and clarity on the terms of the loan. According to Hoeneß, the 40-game requirement is a significant hurdle, considering Bayern’s schedule and Jackson’s potential participation in the African Cup.

Hoeneß also highlighted the positive aspect of the deal, where Jackson and his agent contributed to the loan fee, reducing it to €13.5 million.

He believes this shows that Eberl negotiated a favorable deal for Bayern. Hoeneß expressed frustration with some journalists, who he felt misinterpreted his words and focused on the negative aspects rather than the facts.

The Bayern Munich president emeritus emphasized that his comments were meant to defend Eberl and provide a clear understanding of the deal. He believes that if Eberl had explained the details himself, he wouldn’t have faced criticism for days.
