Tickets for the 2026 World Cup final are being listed for as much as $2.3m on Fifa’s official resale platform.

Four seats for the final on 19 July at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey were listed at $2,299,998 each. The tickets are located behind the goal in the lower tier. Fan groups have complained bitterly about soaring ticket prices in this edition of the World Cup in North America.

Fifa operates the resale platform but it does not set prices, instead charging a 15% fee to both buyers and sellers. A sale at the $2,299 price would generate around $690,000 in fees for Fifa.

Other listings show there are wide variations in pricing. A lower-tier seat marked as easy access standard was priced at $207,000, while a category two ticket in the uppermost tier was listed at $138,000. Nearby, another seat was available for $23,000.

The lowest-priced tickets available for the final on Thursday were $10,923, offering seats near the top of the stadium behind a goal. By comparison, newly released tickets on Fifa’s primary sales platform were priced at $10,990.

Prices on the resale market have risen sharply. In January, the most expensive final ticket had been listed at $230,000.

Fifa has opted not to cap resale prices for this tournament, citing the minimally regulated secondary ticket market in the US and Canada. The governing body said the decision was intended to discourage resellers from moving tickets to external platforms.

Tickets for other matches are also commanding high prices. Seats for some semi-final games were listed at prices ranging from $9,660 to $11,130. Quarter-final tickets ranged from $1,610 to $5,730 depending on location, while tickets for the third-place match in Miami Gardens were available for $1,125.

At previous World Cups, resale prices were capped at face value and significantly lower fees were charged. For the 2022 tournament, Fifa even applied a smaller fee structure, charging the buyer and seller either 5% or a minimal fixed amount.
