Thomas Muller believes Bayern Munich can overturn their narrow first-leg deficit against PSG, predicting a more tactical Champions League semi-final clash in Munich.

Thomas Muller believes Bayern Munich still have every chance of reaching the Champions League final despite their dramatic 5-4 first-leg defeat to PSG, insisting the return showdown in Munich will unfold very differently from last week’s nine-goal thriller in Paris.

Watching from afar as his former club fell just short in one of the competition’s wildest semi-final encounters in years, Muller described the opening leg as a football spectacle and a genuine advertisement for the sport. Yet while neutrals may be hoping for another end-to-end classic, the Bayern legend expects the tactical nature of a second leg to change the emotional rhythm of the contest.

According to Muller, the decisive phase of the tie will begin around the hour mark, when both sides start playing not just the match but the aggregate scoreline. He believes whichever team finds itself in front at that stage will naturally become more cautious, dropping deeper and protecting the result, while the chasing side assumes more territorial control.

Despite Bayern trailing by a single goal, Muller sees no reason for panic. He stressed that a 5-4 deficit is far from catastrophic, particularly with the return leg taking place at the Allianz Arena. In his eyes, PSG’s advantage is slim enough that one strong Bayern performance could erase it quickly, especially if the German champions reproduce the attacking consistency they showed for much of the first leg.

In fact, Muller went a step further by claiming he was more impressed with Bayern’s display in Paris than in their quarter-final victories over Real Madrid. What stood out most to him was not just the attacking quality, but the composure his former side maintained after falling 5-2 behind

Muller praised the team for continuing to build attacks with clarity and belief rather than launching into chaotic all-out assault. That measured response produced two late goals and left the tie alive.

The 36-year-old is convinced Bayern can still complete the comeback. If Vincent Kompany’s side deliver another 90 minutes with the same conviction, intensity and attacking courage they showed in Paris, Muller believes they will win by one or two goals and book their place in the final.
