Juventus boss Luciano Spalletti has challenged Randal Kolo Muani to rediscover his best form after the striker struggled to make an impact in the 1-0 win over Frosinone.

Luciano Spalletti has challenged Randal Kolo Muani to raise his level after the Juventus forward endured a frustrating start to the Serie A season in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Frosinone.

Kolo Muani returned to Turin this summer on a permanent deal after enjoying a promising loan spell with Juventus last season. The Frenchman scored 10 goals in 22 appearances during his first spell and has now signed a five-year contract worth €38 million.

Juventus are expecting much more from the 27-year-old this time around, particularly following the departure of Dusan Vlahovic to Besiktas. Kolo Muani has effectively been brought in to fill the Serbian’s place in the attack, making his goals an important part of Spalletti’s plans.

However, his performance against Frosinone left plenty to be desired.  Gleison Bremer scored the only goal as Juventus secured all three points, while Kolo Muani was unable to convert the opportunities that came his way.

Spalletti was not prepared to hide his disappointment and believes the striker must rediscover the qualities that made him such an exciting forward. The Juventus manager also pointed to Kolo Muani’s lack of consistent football in recent seasons as something he must overcome.

“We went out and signed him, we’ve looked after him and we know his worth, but he needs to realise he hasn’t played for two years and there must be a reason for that,” Spalletti told the media.

The Juventus boss nevertheless believes Kolo Muani has all the tools to succeed. His strength, ability to hold up the ball and movement into dangerous areas make him a useful option, but Spalletti wants those qualities to translate into goals.

“Kolo knows how to hold onto the ball, find space and is physically strong, but these are the sort of matches where he needs to score goals,” he added.
