Jose Mourinho likes the Argentina international; club unwilling to sanction signing until one current midfielder leaves the squad
Real Madrid are willing to sell one of their midfielders this summer as they seek to make room for the signing of Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez.
The Argentine is in new boss Jose Mourinho’s plans to reshape his midfield before next season. However, Madrid are unwilling to sanction a signing until at least one current midfielder leaves the squad.
The club currently have Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga, Federico Valverde, Jude Bellingham, Arda Guler and latest summer signing Bernardo Silva available, having confirmed the exit of Dani Ceballos. But Mourinho likes Fernandez and club officials insist they will need to sell one more player before any further recruitment in the position.
The player high on the club’s exit list is Camavinga, but a departure might be difficult as the France international wants to remain at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Tchouameni is another option but Madrid do not want to let him go, viewing him as the only specialist defensive midfielder in the squad. A departure is therefore considered unlikely unless a substantial bid is received.
Enzo Fernandez is understood to be open to joining Madrid. Any negotiations would be complicated by Chelsea’s valuation after they paid £106m to sign the Argentina international and are expected to seek an even higher fee before contemplating a sale.
Lille’s highly rated teenager Ayyoub Bouaddi is another player admired by Madrid’s recruitment department. The Spanish club, however, face strong competition, with Manchester City, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain currently considered to be in a stronger position in the race for the midfielder.
