Club statement says it “regrets” speculation over a summer move for the player
Real Madrid have denied reports linking Michael Olise with a move to the Bernabeu, insisting they have held no discussions “direct or indirect” with the Bayern Munich winger or his representatives.
The Spanish club released a statement on Saturday rejecting speculation that Olise could be among the next additions to Jose Mourinho’s rebuilding project. Madrid said they had not made contact with the France international and stressed the strength of their relationship with Bayern Munich.
“In light of reports appearing in various media outlets regarding alleged interest from our club in Bayern Munich player Michael Olise, Real Madrid wishes to state that it has had no contact – direct or indirect – with the aforementioned player, his representatives, or his associates,” the club said in a statement.
“Real Madrid also wishes to highlight the excellent institutional relationship it maintains with Bayern Munich – with whom it shares a long history of mutual respect, collaboration, and admiration – and regrets the circulation of speculation which does not reflect reality.
“Both clubs have always maintained a relationship based on trust and mutual respect. This is reflected, among other things, in the shared conviction that any potential interest in a player belonging to the other club should be addressed first between the organisations themselves, in accordance with the principles of institutional loyalty that have historically governed the relationship between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.”
Olise has emerged as one of Europe’s hottest attacking players after two impressive seasons with Bayern. The 24-year-old is currently representing France at the World Cup and registered an assist in their opening 3-1 victory over Senegal.
The reports followed comments made during Florentino Perez’s successful presidential election campaign. Perez promised to make a bid of up to €150m for a top player, although he denied that he was talking about Olise after reports began to mention the player as the target.
Madrid later made the bid for Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez. It was subsequently rejected and caused some tension between the two clubs that were answered by Atletico on social media.
