Napoli are reportedly back in the race for Chelsea defender Benoit Badiashile after the Blues softened their stance on a loan deal.
Napoli have reportedly revived their interest in Chelsea defender Benoit Badiashile, with the Blues now more open to sanctioning a loan move as they continue reshaping their squad ahead of the new season.
The French centre-back joined Chelsea from AS Monaco in January 2023 in a deal worth around €38 million, but he has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter at Stamford Bridge. Injuries and fierce competition for places have limited his opportunities over the past two seasons.
Last season proved particularly frustrating for Badiashile, who made just 16 competitive appearances before falling completely out of the first-team picture during the second half of the campaign.
Napoli had previously explored the possibility of signing the 25-year-old, but only on a temporary basis. At the time, Chelsea were reluctant to approve a loan deal, preferring a permanent transfer or keeping the defender as squad depth.
That position now appears to be changing. Reports suggest Chelsea could be willing to let Badiashile leave on loan if they complete the signing of Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix, while Axel Disasi is also expected to depart the club this summer.
Badiashile remains under contract until June 2030, meaning Chelsea are under no immediate pressure to sell. A season of regular football at a Champions League club could help rebuild his confidence and increase his long-term value.
Napoli’s need for defensive reinforcements has become increasingly urgent after Alessandro Buongiorno underwent knee surgery that is expected to keep him sidelined for two to three months. The situation has been made worse by concerns over Sam Beukema’s fitness ahead of the new campaign.
With new head coach Massimiliano Allegri eager to strengthen his defensive options, Badiashile has once again emerged as a realistic target. If Chelsea officially approve a loan exit, negotiations between the two clubs could accelerate in the coming days.
