Mohamed Salah has completed his move to Trabzonspor.

The Turkish club have confirmed the Egypt forward has signed a two-year contract after leaving Liverpool as a free agent.

Trabzonspor disclosed the financial terms of the agreement in a filing to the Turkish stock exchange. Salah will earn €17m (£14.5m) a year, made up of a €10m salary and a €7m signing bonus each year.

For comparison, he was earning roughly £21m per annum in the lucrative contract extension he signed ahead of his last season at Liverpool.

As Trabzonspor did not have to pay a transfer fee for the Egyptian since he was a free agent, they were able to commit more of their funds to his financial package.

The 34-year-old will also receive 20% of revenue from all merchandise sold under his name for the two seasons he will be at the club. The agents involved in the transfer will receive 5% of the gross value of his deal.

The move was announced with a presentation at Trabzonspor’s stadium after Salah arrived in Turkey earlier this week. Thousands of supporters gathered for the event, waving flags, lighting flares and welcoming the club’s new signing.

“The last couple of days, it’s an experience I’ve never had in my life,” Salah said. “I just want to thank every one of you for being here today. I am feeling so much love here. I never expected that reception.

“I am here to win, I want to win something with this club because you showed me so much love – I appreciate that.”

Salah leaves Liverpool after nine seasons in which he established himself as one of the club’s leading goalscorers. He scored 257 goals and registered 123 assists in 442 appearances across all competitions, helping Liverpool win two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup.

He also represented Egypt at this summer’s World Cup, starting all five matches as his country reached the last 16 before losing 3-2 to Argentina after surrendering a two-goal lead.

Trabzonspor finished third in last season’s Turkish Super Lig, seven points behind champions Galatasaray, and secured qualification for the Europa League after also lifting the Turkish Cup.
