Didier Deschamps’ side started brightly, looking to impose themselves from the opening whistle. Morocco goalkeeper Bono was called into action early, producing an excellent save to deny Mbappe before reacting quickly again to keep out Dayot Upamecano’s powerful header from the resulting corner.
After surviving the early pressure, Morocco settled into a compact defensive shape that frustrated France’s attacking stars for much of the opening half. However, their disciplined approach was nearly undone when a rare venture forward left space for Mbappe to burst into the penalty area before being brought down by Noussair Mazraoui.
Mbappe had the chance to put France ahead from the penalty spot after a lengthy delay, but Bono once again proved Morocco’s hero. The experienced goalkeeper guessed correctly and comfortably saved the Real Madrid forward’s tame effort to keep the scores level heading into the latter stages of the first half.
France continued to push before the interval, coming agonisingly close when Lucas Digne unleashed a dipping strike from distance that crashed against the woodwork. Morocco held firm until the break, leaving the contest finely balanced.
The breakthrough finally arrived on the hour mark, and it came courtesy of Mbappe. Shaking off his earlier penalty disappointment, the French captain curled a brilliant effort from the edge of the area, using Issa Diop as a screen before finding the bottom corner beyond the helpless Bono for his 20th career World Cup goal.

Morocco’s hopes of another famous comeback faded soon after as Dembele doubled France’s advantage. The Paris Saint-Germain winger burst into the space created by Mbappe’s intelligent decoy run before drilling a low finish past Bono to effectively put the quarter-final beyond the Atlas Lions.

Despite Morocco’s late attempts to mount a response, France’s defence, marshalled by Mike Maignan, comfortably protected another clean sheet to seal victory.
Les Bleus now head into the semi-finals full of confidence, where they will face either Spain or Belgium as they continue their pursuit of another World Cup crown.
