The veteran shot-stopper’s future had been the subject of growing speculation ahead of the summer, with questions raised over whether the 40-year-old would finally decide to retire after another demanding campaign. However, fresh reports suggest Neuer is now prepared to continue for at least one more season, giving Bayern a major boost as they plan for the future.

The German international remains one of the most decorated players of his generation, having won 33 trophies since joining Bayern from Schalke in 2011. Among those honours are two UEFA Champions League titles, with Neuer once again helping Bayern challenge for European glory this season before their semi-final exit against Paris Saint-Germain.
According to reports, negotiations over a new deal have reached the final stages, with only legal approval and final discussions with club directors remaining before the contract is officially signed.
Despite his age, Neuer has continued to perform at a high level throughout the 2025/26 campaign, making 39 appearances in all competitions while conceding just 36 goals and keeping 11 clean sheets.
Supporters will welcome the prospect of seeing their captain remain at the Allianz Arena for another year, with many hoping he can finish his legendary Bayern career by lifting a third Champions League trophy before eventually stepping away from the game.
