Alex Scott, Manu Kone and Eduardo Camavinga are other possible options for the club
Manchester United are weighing up a move for Fulham midfielder Sander Berge as they look to add a third midfielder to Michael Carrick’s squad before the new season.
United have already strengthened their midfield this summer with the arrivals of Andrey Santos from Chelsea in a £48m deal and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa for £35m. These two will play alongside Kobbie Mainoo, Mason Mount and Bruno Fernandes in the midfield next term.
However, the club remain in the market for a more physical profile, someone with the capacity to do the hard running and cover a lot of ground. United will be without Casemiro, who left the club at the end of last season and joined Inter Miami this summer, and Manuel Ugarte, who is set for a long spell on the sidelines after suffering injury with Uruguay at the World Cup.
Berge is one of the leading midfielders on United’s list. The 28-year-old Norway international has been monitored by United in previous transfer windows and is valued at about £40m.
The Norwegian has built up significant Premier League experience since joining Sheffield United in 2020. He later moved to Burnley before signing for Fulham in 2024, and was part of the Norway side that reached the World Cup quarter-finals this summer before losing 2-1 to England.
Other midfield options on United’s list are Bournemouth’s Alex Scott and Roma’s Manu Kone, according to sources.
Real Madrid may also offer Eduardo Camavinga to United if they complete a move for Manchester City’s Rodri, although the France international is understood to prefer staying at the Bernabeu and United prefer a player with established Premier League experience for such an important position.
Camavinga has three years remaining on his contract and carries a €1bn release clause, but Real are thought willing to discuss offers in the region of €50m-€60m (£42m-£51m). He was not included in France’s squad for this summer’s World Cup.
