Roma boosted their hopes of securing UEFA Champions League football next season with an impressive 2-0 victory away to Bologna in Serie A.

The win marked Roma’s first away league success since January and arrived at a crucial point in the race for the top four, giving Gian Piero Gasperini’s men renewed momentum.

Donyell Malen once again proved his importance since arriving in January, opening the scoring with Roma’s very first shot of the contest after just seven minutes. The Dutch forward was a constant menace throughout the first half and nearly doubled his tally midway through the period, gliding past Jhon Lucumi before seeing a delicate finish drift narrowly wide.

Bologna struggled to match Roma’s intensity for much of the opening half, though Riccardo Orsolini did test Mile Svilar with a firm effort as the hosts searched for a foothold.

Roma’s control was rewarded again in stoppage time when Neil El Aynaoui converted from close range after a superb delivery from Malen, giving the visitors a deserved two-goal cushion.

Bologna improved after the break and pushed harder in attack, with Orsolini wasting one good chance before rattling the woodwork moments later. Still, Roma’s disciplined defensive shape ensured they were never truly pulled apart.

The Giallorossi held firm to secure three vital points, moving into fifth place and within two points of Juventus. Bologna, meanwhile, remain eighth and are now running out of time in their pursuit of European qualification.
