Donyell Malen scored a hat-trick with three assists from Dybala as Roma opened their Serie A campaign with a dominant 4-0 victory over Fiorentina.
Roma could hardly have imagined a better start to their Serie A campaign, cruising to a 4-0 victory over Fiorentina at the Stadio Olimpico as Donyell Malen and Paulo Dybala combined to devastating effect.
Malen scored all three of his goals with Dybala providing the assist on each occasion, underlining the attacking partnership that could become one of the defining features of Roma’s season. Niccolò Pisilli added a fourth late on to complete a convincing night for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side.
Roma began with confidence and quickly established territorial control. Dybala tested David de Gea early on, while Mile Svilar was forced into a save at the other end from Marco Brescianini. For most of the opening period, however, Fiorentina struggled to escape their own half.

The breakthrough arrived in the 27th minute. Dybala drove at the Fiorentina defence from the left before finding Malen, who brilliantly turned away from Dodô and calmly finished to put Roma ahead.
The Dutch forward doubled his tally shortly after half-time. Mario Hermoso’s long pass eventually reached Dybala, who found Malen in space. The former Dortmund attacker shifted onto his left foot before firing an unstoppable effort past De Gea and into the roof of the net.
Malen completed his hat-trick soon afterwards, with Dybala once again at the heart of the move. The Argentine reached the byline before cutting the ball back across goal, allowing Malen to finish from close range and claim the match ball.
Roma were not satisfied with simply protecting their advantage. They continued to press for another goal while their defence remained composed, and their persistence paid off when Matias Soulé’s delivery eventually fell to Pisilli, who kept his composure to make it 4-0.
