Club are confident the player wants to join but PSG’s valuation could scupper the move

Liverpool are preparing to make an opening bid for Bradley Barcola after holding talks with his representatives.

The club are stepping up their pursuit after receiving encouragement that the Paris Saint-Germain forward is interested in a move to Anfield.

Barcola has been heavily linked with Liverpool this summer as the club seek to strengthen their options on the wing before the new season under Andoni Iraola.

Any deal for the France international is likely to be difficult. PSG are understood to value the 23-year-old at about £145m, a fee that would set a British transfer record, eclipsing the £125m they paid for Isak last summer. Barcola has two years remaining on his contract but is believed to have rejected an extension despite PSG’s efforts to tie him to a new deal.

Liverpool have been exploring the player’s willingness to leave the European champions and are confident enough to move to the next stage of negotiations, although it is unclear whether they are prepared to meet PSG’s asking price. The club spent heavily last summer on targets Florian Wirtz and Isak.

Why Do Liverpool Want Barcola and Why Does He Want to Leave?

Barcola has been on Liverpool’s radar for some time and, although there have been some concerns over his finishing ability, he has strengthened his reputation over the past year.

He made 49 appearances for PSG last season, scoring 13 goals and providing seven assists as the club retained the Ligue 1 title and won the Champions League again. He also scored three goals in eight appearances for France during this summer’s World Cup.

The winger’s opportunities at PSG have been limited as Luis Enrique continues to prefer Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue. Barcola, who can play on either flank but is most effective from the left, is looking for a club where he can have more minutes to demonstrate his abilities.

Liverpool are looking for an elite winger after Mohamed Salah left the club at the end of last season. They have already signed Victor Munoz from Osasuna but want to add another player with a bigger profile.

The club had shown interest in Yan Diomande but the RB Leipzig winger preferred PSG and Real Madrid ahead of Liverpool. Diomande is now set to join Madrid after PSG withdrew from the race to sign him.
