Real Madrid’s medical staff are cautious to avoid risking a much longer absence

Real Madrid are awaiting further medical results on Kylian Mbappe after the forward limped off during a 1-1 draw with Real Betis.

Mbappe was forced off late in the match, his 100th appearance for the club, raising immediate concerns over his availability for the closing stages of the season. Early assessments have offered some encouragement, with an initial scan indicating the injury may not be serious.

According to reports, the result of the first scan came back good but Mbappe will still undergo another check on Monday with an MRI.

The forward is a doubt for upcoming fixtures. The timing is a concern for Madrid, with a clásico against Barcelona coming up on 10 May. Manager Alvaro Arbeloa admitted uncertainty over the situation after the match against Betis.

“I have no idea [what’s wrong with Mbappe],” Arbeloa said. “He felt some discomfort. We’ll see how he evolves over the next few days.”

Mbappe’s fitness is also being closely monitored by Didier Deschamps ahead of the World Cup, where France are set to open their campaign against Senegal. The 27-year-old has been a key figure this season, scoring 41 goals in all competitions.

Madrid may opt to rest him for their upcoming game against Espanyol as a precaution, with the club’s medical staff focused on ensuring he is available for the run-in without risking a much longer absence.

The situation is further complicated by the absence of Rodrygo, who has already been ruled out of the World Cup with a knee injury.
