Kane Scores Brace As Bayern Munich Win DFB-Pokal Opener

Harry Kane scored twice as Bayern Munich recovered from an early scare to beat second-tier Osnabrück 4-1.

Bayern Munich were forced to come from behind before eventually cruising past Osnabrück in their German Cup opener on Wednesday, with Harry Kane leading the comeback with a decisive brace.

The hosts stunned the Bundesliga champions after just five minutes when Robin Meissner produced a superb dipping effort from outside the box that flew beyond the reach of the Bayern goalkeeper.

The goal sent the home crowd into celebration as Osnabrück briefly dreamed of a famous cup upset.

Bayern, however, responded quickly and showed why they are the competition’s record winners. Kane reacted first to a rebound inside the box and hammered the ball into the net to restore parity.

The England captain was involved again six minutes later as Bayern completed their turnaround. Tom Bischof followed up on another loose ball to make it 2-1, putting the holders in control before the interval.

Osnabrück continued to compete after the break, but Bayern gradually took control of the contest.

Michael Olise extended the visitors’ advantage in the 73rd minute, effectively ending the hosts’ hopes of a comeback.

Kane then completed his brace from the penalty spot with four minutes remaining, putting the finishing touch on another productive night for the striker.

The 33-year-old now has 148 goals in 150 appearances in all competitions for Bayern since moving to Germany from Tottenham in 2023.

He also helped Bayern avoid an early cup exit, something the club have not suffered since 1994.

“It’s never easy at an away ground with a very good atmosphere. They started the game with an amazing goal, and we had to stay calm,” Kane said after the final whistle. “I’m happy we got the win.”

Bayern, who have lifted the German Cup 21 times, now advance to the next round as they continue their defence of the trophy.
