Argentina forward has been targeted by both Real Madrid and Barcelona

Julian Alvarez has confirmed he wants to leave Atletico Madrid, saying a transfer would allow him to “fulfil my dream” amid reported interest from Real Madrid, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.

The Argentina forward made his position public after his country’s World Cup Group J victory over Austria. It increases uncertainty over his future only two years after joining Atletico from Manchester City.

“I spoke with people at the club, with those I had to speak with, and the best thing for everyone is a transfer and I want to fulfil my dream,” Alvarez said.

“It’s ‌not the time ‌to talk about this, but I also can’t ‌hide it. I try to be an honest person.”

However, despite making clear his desire to move Alvarez indicated there is no immediate resolution in sight. “It’s not known when it will be resolved,” the striker said.

The 26-year-old’s comments come after reports that Atletico rejected a €150m (£129.4m) offer from Real Madrid earlier this summer. Spanish and Argentinian media have also linked Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain with a move for the striker, whose stock has continued to rise following his performances for club and country.

Alvarez joined Atletico in 2024 in a deal worth up to €95m (£81.5m) after a successful spell at Manchester City.
