Jadon Sancho is currently a free agent after his contract at Manchester United expired this summer.
It feels like ages ago since he joined the club from Borussia Dortmund in 2021. United signed Sancho after he established himself as one of Europe’s most productive young attackers, but he struggled to reproduce anything close to that form during his time in the Premier League.
Things started to go awry even from the very first weeks of his arrival at United, when an injury delayed his debut for the club. It was also immediately discovered that while United had signed him as a solution to their woes at right wing, he was not actually comfortable on the right wing and preferred the left.
After falling out with Erik ten Hag he went on several loan spells, including at his old club Dortmund and at Chelsea. He hardly pulled up trees at either club and Chelsea paid United £5m last year to get out of an obligation to sign him.
He followed in the footsteps of Marcus Rashford and joined Aston Villa, but after an entire season Villa were unconvinced, and the club chose not to make the move permanent. His left Villa this summer just as his five-year contract with United expired, leaving him available on a free transfer.
According to Sky Sports, he is currently weighing up offers from clubs in Europe and Saudi Arabia.

Without a club, he has been spotted training at 10th-tier side Flixton FC, just three miles away from Carrington.
The club, which currently plays in England’s Northwest Counties League Division One North, was forced to issue a statement after speculation spread online that Sancho was about to join them.
Flixton owner Christopher Garcia said: “Over the past few days, we’ve seen a number of posts and comments circulating regarding Jadon Sancho’s visit to Flixton FC.
“To clarify, Jadon was not on trial with the club and was not involved in any transfer discussions. He simply used our facilities for a private training session to maintain his fitness while preparing for the next chapter of his career.
“During his visit, Jadon was nothing but professional, humble and generous with his time.
“We thank Jadon for choosing Flixton FC as a place to train and wish him every success in the next stage of his career, which will undoubtedly be at a level far above where we currently compete. Our doors will always be open to him.”
Borussia Dortmund, as ever, are among the clubs being linked with Sancho, but it is unclear whether his old club will take him back yet again. He has around a month to find a new club, where he will hope to revive his career at 26.
In any case, it is a sad place to be for the player who had once looked like he would set Europe on fire.
