Erling Haaland found the net again, but Norway’s 14-game unbeaten home run came to an end as Goncalo Ramos capitalised on a costly Orjan Nyland mistake to give Portugal a 2-1 Nations League victory in Oslo.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s absence from Portugal’s starting XI meant there would be no 90-minute meeting between two of football’s biggest modern goalscorers, but the game still delivered plenty of drama at Ullevaal Stadion.
Ronaldo started on the bench, while Haaland led the line for Norway as both sides looked to make it two wins from their opening two Group A4 matches.
Portugal started brightly, with Joao Neves heading over in the 13th minute before Haaland was denied by Diogo Costa at the other end. The Norway striker was made to pay for that miss moments later.
Joao Felix opened the scoring in the 17th minute, calmly firing beyond Nyland from the edge of the box to put Portugal ahead.
Haaland immediately went searching for a response and came close when Costa parried an effort into his path. However, the Manchester City striker was denied by a superb block from club teammate Ruben Dias.
Norway continued to threaten before half-time, with Costa producing two more saves to keep out Haaland headers, while Sander Berge headed wide. Portugal therefore entered the break with their sixth consecutive first-half clean sheet.
Six minutes after the restart, Haaland converted from close range to bring Norway level and take his international tally to 65 goals in 57 appearances.

The goal also extended his remarkable record, with Haaland having now scored in 16 of his last 17 competitive international appearances. Norway’s momentum, however, lasted barely three minutes.
Nyland made a costly error when he passed the ball straight to Ramos, allowing the Portugal forward to calmly lift the ball into an empty net and restore the visitors’ lead.
Ramos thought he had doubled his advantage shortly afterwards when he raced onto another mistake from Nyland and finished into an empty goal, but the effort was ruled out for offside.
Norway pushed for another equaliser as the game became increasingly frantic, but Portugal held firm to claim all three points. The result ended Norway’s impressive 14-match unbeaten run at home and leaves them with three points from their opening two matches.

Portugal, meanwhile, move top of Group A4 after winning their opening two Nations League games under new manager Jorge Jesus.
