France insist they have nothing to fear against Spain in the World Cup semi-finals.

France defender Ibrahima Konate insists Les Bleus will head into Tuesday’s World Cup semi-final against Spain without fear, even as they prepare to face one of the tournament’s most complete teams.

Spain have impressed throughout the competition, conceding just one goal on their way to the last four as they continue their pursuit of a second World Cup title.

France, however, remain confident they can overcome the European giants despite recent defeats to La Roja in the UEFA Euro 2024 semi-finals and the Nations League last year.

Speaking ahead of the clash, Konate stressed that France would approach the game with confidence rather than intimidation. He said the squad would prepare as thoroughly as possible and hope their work would be rewarded with a place in the World Cup final.

The Liverpool centre-back also warned against focusing solely on teenage sensation Lamine Yamal. While acknowledging the Barcelona winger’s exceptional talent, Konate said Spain possess quality across the pitch and cannot be reduced to just one player.

France have relied on the central defensive partnership of Dayot Upamecano and William Saliba throughout the tournament, with Didier Deschamps’ side chasing a place in what would be their fifth World Cup final. A victory would also see them reach a third consecutive World Cup final after appearances in 2018 and 2022.

Despite the possibility of making more history, Konate insisted nobody inside the French camp was looking beyond Spain. He stressed that remaining humble was vital, warning that overconfidence could quickly derail their World Cup ambitions.

Fellow defender Maxence Lacroix echoed those sentiments, praising Spain’s consistency throughout the tournament. He admitted France have great respect for a side that has won every match apart from a goalless draw with Cape Verde, but insisted Les Bleus are determined to end Spain’s impressive run.

Lacroix also highlighted the threat posed by Lamine Yamal, whose performances have dazzled at the World Cup. However, the defender expressed confidence that France’s backline would be ready for the challenge, insisting they will do everything necessary to contain the Spanish star and secure a place in the final.
