Forward wants improved salary and assurance of gametime
Ferran Torres has rejected a contract renewal offer from Barcelona and is now considering his future, with Paris Saint-Germain lurking.
Torres is dissatisfied with both the financial terms of Barcelona’s offer and the lack of assurance of gametime, according to sources. The 25-year-old wants a significant salary increase and greater clarity over his role under Hansi Flick before committing his future to the club.
Negotiations have reached an impasse, leaving Barcelona at risk of losing one of their key attacking players. Torres is expected to make a final decision after returning from his post-season break, unless the club return with an improved offer.
The Spain international believes his performances have earned better terms. He ended the World Cup by scoring the winning goal in the final against Argentina as Spain claimed the trophy.
He has also been a regular contributor for Barcelona since joining from Manchester City in January 2022. He has scored 65 goals in 207 appearances for the club and finished last season with 21 goals in 49 matches across all competitions.
Paris Saint-Germain are understood to be in the strongest position if Torres decides to leave. The Ligue 1 champions have already presented a proposal that is considered more attractive than Barcelona’s offer, while the forward is said to value the confidence shown in him by Luis Enrique.
Barcelona are also aware of the financial implications of the situation. Torres is under contract until 2027, but the club are said to be prepared to sell this summer rather than allow his value to decline as his deal enters its final years.
Sporting director Deco has reportedly set an asking price of €50m, below the player’s estimated market value of €55m, with any sale potentially helping Barcelona finance a move for Julian Alvarez.
