Forward has been criticised for his work rate on loan in France

Real Madrid’s on-loan forward Endrick has dismissed suggestions of a disagreement with Lyon coach Paulo Fonseca after scoring in the team’s shock 2-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain.

The 19-year-old made an immediate impact at the Parc des Princes, scoring within six minutes of the game with a first-time finish. The goal was his fourth in Ligue 1 this season and sparked a massive win that has helped Lyon strengthen their push for Champions League qualification.

Attention after the match focused on Endrick’s relationship with Fonseca, who had recently criticised the forward’s work rate during a run of inconsistent performances, including the goalless draw against Angers. But Endrick has rejected the idea of any tension with his manager.

“There are no problems with the coach,” said Endrick. “He has decisions to make. I don’t want to stay angry with him. We talked. I need to give the best possible response on the pitch.”

Fonseca had previously said the player had an “obligation to do more”, referring to his attitude and consistency. The Lyon coach has since defended his statement, suggesting the criticism was intended to provoke a reaction.

“As a coach, we have to find strategies to get reactions from the players and that’s what I did,” Fonseca said recently. Endrick’s performance against PSG appears to have delivered that response, with the forward playing a key role in a result that keeps Lyon in the race for a top-four finish.
