Chelsea have strengthened significantly this summer and have no European football to distract them. Can Xabi Alonso’s side realistically win the Premier League?
Chelsea enter the new Premier League season with expectations unlike any they have faced in recent years. After several campaigns of inconsistency, expensive rebuilds and managerial changes, the Blues finally appear to have assembled a squad capable of challenging at the very top of English football.
While predicting a title is always risky, one thing is clear: Chelsea should not merely be aiming for a top-four finish. They must be genuine contenders for the Premier League crown.
Chelsea Have Undergone A Squad Overhaul
One of Chelsea’s biggest problems over the last two seasons has been converting chances into goals. Too often, they dominated matches without having a reliable focal point in attack.
That issue has been addressed this summer. The arrival of Danny Welbeck to support João Pedro give Xabi Alonso several different attacking profiles, while the squad also boasts Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers, Pedro Neto, and Estevao. Suddenly, Chelsea have depth, versatility and significantly more experience in the final third.

Elsewhere, the additions of Jordan Henderson and defensive reinforcements have brought more balance to a squad that previously relied heavily on young players. Henderson’s leadership could prove just as valuable as his performances, especially during difficult moments in a title race.
No European Football Could Be Chelsea’s Biggest Advantage
Perhaps Chelsea’s greatest weapon this season is something their rivals do not have: a lighter schedule.
Without Champions League, Europa League or Conference League football, Xabi Alonso will enjoy full weeks on the training ground for most of the campaign. That allows him to develop his tactical ideas, improve player fitness and prepare specifically for every league opponent.
It could be a disadvantage, as seen with Manchester United last season. However, if Chelsea can maintain mental and physical sharpness, they can genuinely push for the Premier League title.
Winning the title, however, will be anything but straightforward.
Arsenal remain one of the strongest teams in England and are expected to strengthen further before the transfer window closes. Liverpool will also remain dangerous regardless of managerial changes. Their attacking quality and winning mentality ensure they cannot be overlooked.

Manchester City, despite going through changes of their own, still possess arguably the deepest squad in Europe. As long as they have world-class players throughout the team, they will remain contenders.
Tottenham have invested aggressively following Roberto De Zerbi’s arrival, while Manchester United are expected to improve after another busy transfer window.tott Aston Villa and Newcastle also have squads capable of taking points off anyone.
The Premier League has perhaps never been deeper.
Consistency Will Decide Chelsea’s Season
Talent has rarely been Chelsea’s biggest issue. Consistency has.
Championship-winning teams collect points when they are not playing well. They avoid long winless runs, beat teams in the bottom half regularly and find ways to win difficult away matches.
That is the challenge facing Alonso. If he can turn Chelsea into a team that consistently performs at a high level rather than one capable only of occasional brilliance, the title race becomes a realistic objective rather than an optimistic dream.
