Chelsea Goalkeeper Jorgensen Joins Strasbourg on Loan

Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen has completed a season-long loan move to French Ligue 1 side Strasbourg as he looks to secure regular first-team football.

The 24-year-old joined Chelsea from Villarreal in the summer of 2024 and has made 36 appearances for the Blues across his two seasons at Stamford Bridge. However, competition for places has limited his opportunities, making a temporary move away a logical next step in his development.

Jorgensen is expected to play an important role at Strasbourg after new manager Hugo Oliveira identified a ball-playing goalkeeper as a priority. The move follows Mike Penders’ return to Chelsea after spending last season on loan at the French club.

The transfer also highlights the relationship between the two clubs, who are both part of the BlueCo ownership group. Strasbourg have increasingly become an important destination for Chelsea players looking for regular senior football and greater responsibility.

Jorgensen already has significant European experience despite his relatively young age. He was a key figure in Chelsea’s run to the UEFA Conference League title in 2025, starting all but one of their matches in the competition before helping the club win the Club World Cup later that summer.

The Denmark international made 12 appearances across four competitions for Chelsea last season. A full campaign as Strasbourg’s first-choice goalkeeper could now give him the consistency and experience needed to return to Stamford Bridge in a stronger position.

For Chelsea, the loan provides Jorgensen with the opportunity to develop while continuing the club’s strategy of giving young players regular first-team football within the wider BlueCo network.
