Chelsea are reportedly considering another move for AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan just months after the France international signed a new long-term contract at San Siro.
Mike Maignan’s future is once again becoming a topic of speculation despite the goalkeeper only recently committing his long-term future to AC Milan with a new contract extension.
The France international signed a fresh deal with the Rossoneri in January 2026, extending his stay at San Siro until June 2031 after months of uncertainty surrounding his future. At the time, the agreement appeared to put an end to suggestions that Maignan could leave the Italian giants.

Last year, the goalkeeper looked increasingly likely to depart as his previous contract entered its final stages. Chelsea emerged as the strongest contenders for his signature and reports in Italy suggested personal terms had already been agreed between the Premier League side and the player’s representatives.
However, AC Milan ultimately refused to sanction the move, choosing instead to continue negotiations over a renewal. That decision now appears justified, with the club securing one of Europe’s top goalkeepers on a long-term deal and protecting his market value in the process.
Despite that extension, fresh reports claim Chelsea have not abandoned their pursuit of the 30-year-old and could return with another offer during the upcoming summer transfer window. The London club are still believed to admire Maignan’s leadership, shot-stopping ability and experience at the highest level.
One factor that could influence the situation is the growing uncertainty behind the scenes at Milan.

Questions are reportedly emerging over the futures of both manager Massimiliano Allegri and sporting director Igli Tare, creating a sense of instability around the club heading into the summer.
Allegri, in particular, is understood to have played a major role in convincing Maignan to remain in Milan. The experienced coach reportedly reassured the French goalkeeper about the club’s ambitions and future project. If Allegri were to leave after only one season in charge, it could potentially force Maignan to reassess his own situation.
Unlike last summer, AC Milan would now be in a much stronger negotiating position if Chelsea return with a formal bid.
Maignan will turn 31 later this year but remains one of Europe’s elite goalkeepers and is expected to be France’s first-choice stopper at the 2026 World Cup, meaning the Rossoneri would likely demand a substantial transfer fee before even considering a sale.
