Brighton have signed Croatian defender Luka Vuskovic from Tottenham in a club-record deal worth up to £50 million.

Brighton have completed the signing of Tottenham Hotspur defender Luka Vuskovic in a club-record transfer that could rise to £50 million.

The highly rated Croatian centre-back becomes the most expensive player in the Seagulls’ history.

The deal is worth a guaranteed £46 million, with a further £4 million included in performance-related add-ons. Vuskovic has put pen to paper on a five-year contract that will keep him at the Amex Stadium until the summer of 2031.

Tottenham have also negotiated a 20% sell-on clause on any profit Brighton make from a future transfer, ensuring they could benefit again if the youngster continues his rapid development.

Vuskovic originally joined Spurs from Hajduk Split in 2023 while still only 16 years old in a deal worth around £12 million. He officially linked up with the North London club in July 2025 after remaining in Croatia to continue his development.

The defender made an immediate impression after arriving in England, scoring in a pre-season friendly against Reading before Tottenham opted to send him out on loan to Hamburg to gain regular first-team experience.

That decision proved to be an excellent one, as Vuskovic enjoyed a superb campaign in the Bundesliga. His performances earned him a place in the Bundesliga Team of the Season, while his spectacular scorpion-kick strike was voted the league’s Goal of the Year.

The 19-year-old has also established himself on the international stage. He represented Croatia at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he became the nation’s youngest-ever player to feature at the tournament, and has already earned six senior international caps.
