Barcelona will close the Gol 1957 supporters’ section for Sunday’s La Liga match against Alaves after disciplinary incidents involving their fans during last weekend’s loss to Real Madrid.
The club said the behaviour of some supporters had exposed them to possible financial penalties and the risk of a stadium closure. It also warned that the incidents had damaged Barcelona’s image.
La Liga reported 10 disciplinary incidents from Sunday’s Clasico at the Camp Nou. They included an allegation that a supporter in the organised fans’ section struck Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga with a flag after the visitors scored their winning goal.
Insults directed at Madrid’s head coach, Jose Mourinho, and Marc Cucurella, the former Barcelona youth-team player who now plays at left-back, were also included in the report to the league’s disciplinary committee.
In a statement, Barcelona said the suspension followed investigations into conduct by the club and some of its members.
“The decision comes in response to a series of investigations opened against the club and some of its members following behaviour contrary to the values of sport,” the statement said.
“Such behaviour exposes the club to financial penalties and the risk of the stadium being closed, as well as damaging its image.”
Barcelona said they would meet representatives of Gol 1957 to discuss the incidents. The club hopes to reach an agreement that will allow the supporters to return for the next home fixture, against Aston Villa in the Champions League on 3 November.
Gol 1957 occupies part of the lower south stand and is reserved for organised supporters. The section takes its name from the year the Camp Nou first opened and was established in March this year with room for 800 fans.
The latest action follows an earlier dispute over supporter conduct. In November 2024, when Barcelona were playing at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys during work on the Camp Nou, the club closed part of its home support area indefinitely after receiving fines over fans’ behaviour.
At the time, Barcelona said the Espai d’Animacio had been closed because groups using the section had failed to meet their obligations to the club.
