Club’s interest in Marcus Rashford has cooled following an inconsistent loan spell but an attacking player will be targeted

Barcelona are preparing for a significant rebuild in the summer despite remaining on course to win their second La Liga title in as many seasons under Hansi Flick.

The club secured the Supercopa de España earlier this year but have suffered defeat in Europe and the Copa del Rey, prompting plans to strengthen key areas of the squad.

Barcelona’s priority in defence is to recruit a left-footed centre-back to partner Pau Cubarsi. The absence of a natural option on that side has forced players like Eric Garcia and Gerard Martin into unfamiliar roles, affecting depth elsewhere. Alessandro Bastoni has emerged as the leading target, although Inter Milan are expected to demand a substantial fee.

There is also uncertainty over Andreas Christensen, whose contract expires this summer. Barcelona have made an offer on reduced terms, but no agreement has been reached. Meanwhile, Ronald Araujo remains under a long-term contract until 2031, though he has struggled to secure a regular starting place this season.

In attack, Barcelona are expected to prioritise signing a centre-forward. Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres have shared responsibilities this season without fully convincing, and Lewandowski’s contract expires in the summer. The club could offer him a reduced role on lower wages, but his future remains unclear. Torres, whose deal runs until 2027, has also failed to secure the position and could be made available if suitable offers arrive.

The club’s interest in Marcus Rashford has cooled following unsatisfactory performances. Despite an option to sign him permanently for €30m, Barcelona are not currently planning to activate the clause.

Julian Alvarez is viewed as the club’s preferred attacking target, although Atletico Madrid are expected to demand at least €100m. Other options under consideration include Harry Kane of Bayern Munich, as well as Victor Osimhen and Omar Marmoush.

Barcelona are also monitoring Victor Munoz, who has impressed at Osasuna this season. The winger previously spent time in Barcelona’s youth system and could be considered as an alternative wide option, but Real Madrid are also interested in the Spain international and could make a deal difficult for Barcelona.
