Catalan club are in search of a marquee striker but attempts to sign the England forward were rebuffed

Barcelona have made inquiries about signing Harry Kane but they were dismissed by the player’s camp.

Kane has entered the final year of his contract at Bayern but both player and club are understood to be relaxed about the situation and expect discussions over a new deal to continue after the World Cup.

Barcelona are in search of a striker after veteran Robert Lewandowski left the club at the end of last season. They were prepared to assess whether a move for Kane could be feasible but their interest went no further after receiving a lukewarm response.

A departure from Bayern appears unlikely for Kane. He has settled in Munich with his family and enjoyed an outstanding second season at the club last term, scoring 61 goals and providing seven assists in 51 appearances as Bayern completed a domestic treble by winning the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and German Super Cup.

Kane also reached 70 goals for club and country this season after scoring in England’s 2-0 victory over Panama on Saturday. He has become the highest scoring England player at the World Cup after surpassing Gary Lineker, and could be at the centre of the Ballon d’Or conversation should England win the tournament.
