Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde is reportedly unhappy with decision makers and coaching staff at the club, including Hansi Flick.

Balde was left out of Barcelona’s squad for Sunday’s game against Elche. Flick said in his interview with the media that he had doubts about the defender’s commitment.

“I spoke to Balde this morning and told him that I think he’s not 100% here, that he needs to clear his head and then we’ll talk,” the manager said.

The decision has left Balde frustrated, according to people close to the player, who say he does not understand why his situation has changed so close to the end of the transfer window.

It is understood the left-back rejected offers during the summer because he expected to stay at Barcelona and remain part of Flick’s plans.

Balde’s camp are upset about the timing because they believe Barcelona should have made their concerns clear earlier if they had doubts about his future.

The player returned to normal group training on Monday, having previously been working separately to recover from an injury, and his return suggested a slight easing of tensions.

However, there is still the question of whether Barcelona consider him as an option at left-back. Joao Cancelo was signed this summer and will be expected to be a regular figure in the position.

Against Elche, youngster Xavi Espart played full-time there and impressed, suggesting he is also an option there despite previously playing as a right-back.

Manchester United are understood to be monitoring developments on Balde. The Premier League club has reportedly made contact with his representatives to establish the conditions for a possible transfer and reports have suggested that an opening offer of about €40m could be considered.

United need a backup option at left-back but may be unwilling to commit the funds for a permanent deal.

A move may also be complicated by the fact Balde has maintained a desire to remain at Barcelona. The situation is likely to remain open until the deadline.
