Arsenal are preparing an opening bid for Bruno Guimaraes and are willing to improve their offer if Newcastle United reject their initial proposal for the Brazilian midfielder.

Arsenal are preparing to make an official move for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, although the club accepts that their opening offer is unlikely to be enough to secure the Brazil international’s signature.

The Gunners are expected to submit an initial proposal worth around £70 million, but sources indicate the club are already planning for the possibility of returning with an improved bid if Newcastle reject their first approach.

There is growing optimism at the Emirates regarding the player’s stance. Sources suggest Guimaraes is keen on the move to North London, while personal terms are believed to have already been agreed in principle.

Arsenal are determined not to miss out on another marquee target after suffering disappointment earlier in the summer. The Premier League champions were beaten by Chelsea in the race to sign Morgan Rogers, who completed a British-record £117 million transfer from Aston Villa.

The club had valued Rogers at approximately £80 million, only for Chelsea to significantly outbid them. That experience has reportedly convinced Arsenal to adopt a more aggressive approach in their pursuit of Guimaraes.

Reports suggest Arsenal could eventually increase their proposal to a package worth more than £80 million, including performance-related add-ons. Even so, club officials view that figure as the upper limit of what they are prepared to pay.

Newcastle, however, are expected to demand substantially more. The Magpies are reportedly using Sandro Tonali’s recent £100 million move to Tottenham as a benchmark and continue to insist they have no intention of selling one of their most influential players this summer.

Despite Newcastle’s public stance, Arsenal remain committed to testing their resolve. A formal bid for Guimaraes is expected to arrive shortly, setting the stage for what could become one of the biggest transfer sagas of the summer window.
