Arsenal return to the top of the Premier League table following their 1-0 win over Newcastle.

Arsenal secured all three points in a must-win vs Newcastle United at the Emirates. Arsenal slipped to second place following Manchester City’s 1-0 win over Burnley on Wednesday.

The game was tightly contested but eventually decided by Eberechi Eze’s goal in the ninth minute.

There were few chances between both sides. Tonali tested Raya from range while Willock’s effort from the edge of the box was calmly collected by the Arsenal goalkeeper.

Arsenal would’ve doubled their lead when Saka’s shot was deflected off Dan Burn’s leg and off target. Saka, who came on as a substitute, also created the opening for Odegaard’s long-range shot, which Pope saved at his near post.

Gabriel Martinelli had Arsenal fans on their feet when his overheard kick seemed like it would shake the net, only to be stopped dead by Pope.

Newcastle would’ve leveled the game in the closing stages of the second half as Woltemade played in Wissa, who could only blaze the ball over the bar from close range. That was Newcastle’s best chance of the game, and they couldn’t muster any more opportunities to tip the game over the edge.

Arsenal returned to the top of the Premier League table with the win, but they are there temporarily as Manchester City have a game in hand. The Cityzens were in action against Southampton in the FA Cup semifinal, where they won 2-1 to set a final with either Chelsea or Leeds.

Despite the news, there is bad news as Havertz had to be subbed off early due to an injury and in the second half, Eze felt something and also couldn’t continue. Arsenal fans will now hope that it is not serious for both players.
