Midfielder set for unofficial debut against Wrexham after joining the club from Chelsea

Andrey Santos is in line to make his first Manchester United appearance after being named in Michael Carrick’s squad for Saturday’s pre-season friendly against Wrexham in Helsinki.

The Brazil midfielder completed his move from Chelsea on Monday in a deal that could rise to £50m and has spent the week training at Carrington. He is part of a 25-man travelling party that combines established first-team players with several academy prospects.

United are still without a number of senior internationals who featured at the World Cup, including fellow summer signing Youri Tielemans, leaving Carrick to continue integrating younger players during the club’s preparations for the new season.

Benjamin Sesko has also remained in Manchester as he continues his recovery from the shin injury that ruled him out of the final three matches of last season. His absence increases the chance of game time for academy forwards Chidi Obi and Ethan Wheatley, although JJ Gabriel has not been included in the squad.

Harry Maguire, Bryan Mbeumo, Patrick Dorgu, Leny Yoro, Luke Shaw, Ayden Heaven, Mason Mount and Joshua Zirkzee are among the senior players who have travelled. Youngsters Harry Amass, Shea Lacey, Jaydan Kamason, Jacob Devaney, Dan Gore, Jim Thwaites, Tyler Fletcher and Jack Fletcher are also in the group.

Goalkeeper Karl Darlow, who joined on a free transfer from Leeds this week, has not travelled. Tom Heaton is joined by Radek Vitek and Dermot Mee as United’s goalkeeping options for the match.
