Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti has called on his players to remain calm and composed ahead of their World Cup Round of 32 clash with Japan.

Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has challenged his players to embrace the pressure of knockout football as the Seleção prepare to face Japan in the Round of 32 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Italian described the encounter as Brazil’s “first final” of the tournament, stressing that there is no room for mistakes from this stage onward.

Although Brazil progressed confidently through the group stage, Ancelotti warned against underestimating Japan. The Asian side famously defeated Brazil 3-2 in an international friendly last October.

Speaking ahead of the match in Houston, Ancelotti insisted that mentality will be just as important as technical ability. He believes Brazil must combine determination with tactical discipline if they are to avoid an upset and continue their quest for a sixth World Cup title.

“We’ll need a very strong mentality, a lot of heart and clear ideas,” Ancelotti said. “We have to be ready for anything that can happen in a knockout match because these games can change in an instant. I believe the team is ready, motivated and confident after our last two performances.”

The veteran coach also urged his players not to become overwhelmed by the occasion despite the enormous expectations that come with representing Brazil at the World Cup. Instead, he wants his squad to focus solely on their responsibilities once they step onto the pitch.

“In the end, it’s still a football match, even if it’s part of an extraordinary event like the World Cup,” Ancelotti explained. “The key is handling the pressure by staying focused on what needs to be done. We must work together in both attack and defence because we are facing a very organised and talented opponent.”

Ancelotti believes Brazil’s wealth of experience could prove decisive in such a high-pressure encounter. With several players accustomed to competing in major international tournaments and Champions League finals, he expects that composure to help guide the team through what he anticipates will be a difficult contest.

The Brazil boss also provided an encouraging update on Neymar’s fitness after weeks of speculation surrounding the forward. Ancelotti revealed that the star attacker has made significant progress in training, although he stopped short of confirming whether Neymar will feature against Japan, insisting any decision will depend on how the match develops.
