The atmosphere at San Siro was already tense before kick-off, with sections of the AC Milan ultras protesting against club management, including CEO Giorgio Furlani. Frustration inside the stadium only intensified as Atalanta stormed into a 3-0 lead before the hour mark, prompting many supporters to head for the exits early.
Atalanta took control through goals from Ederson, Davide Zappacosta and Giacomo Raspadori, leaving Milan staring at another humiliating defeat in front of their own fans.
However, the Rossoneri produced a late response as Strahinja Pavlović headed home in the 88th minute before Christopher Nkunku converted a stoppage-time penalty to set up a frantic finish. AC Milan nearly snatched an unlikely equaliser, but Matteo Gabbia saw his late header drift agonisingly wide.

Speaking after the match, Allegri admitted the performance was deeply disappointing but insisted there was no value in dwelling on past mistakes. Instead, he urged his players to channel all their energy into the upcoming clash against Genoa, which he described as decisive for Milan’s European ambitions.
The AC Milan boss also tried to take positives from the defeat, pointing to the team finally ending a lengthy scoring drought at San Siro. Milan had failed to score at home for more than 300 minutes before their late goals against Atalanta.
Despite the loss, AC Milan remain firmly in the race for a top-four finish. They sit level on points with Roma in fourth place, one point behind Juventus and only two clear of Como with two matches left to play.
Allegri’s task has become even more complicated ahead of next week’s trip to Genoa, with Rafael Leão, Alexis Saelemaekers and Pervis Estupiñán all suspended. Meanwhile, Christian Pulisic missed the Atalanta match with a muscular issue, while Davide Bartesaghi suffered an injury during the game.
The veteran coach accepted responsibility for Milan’s poor run of form and defended his players amid growing criticism from supporters. Allegri stressed that the team must stay united during this difficult spell, insisting their focus should remain solely on finding the two victories they need to secure a Champions League place.
