Napoli’s difficult start under Massimiliano Allegri continued with a 1-1 draw at Fiorentina, leaving the defending champions with just seven points from their opening five Serie A games.
Napoli have endured their worst start to a Serie A season in more than a decade after being held by Fiorentina on Sunday.
Billy Gilmour gave the Partenopei the lead in Florence, but a deflected effort from Alex Jimenez brought Fiorentina level and left Allegri’s side with just seven points from five matches.

Napoli have now recorded two wins, one draw and two defeats from their opening five league games. Their seven-point haul is their lowest at this stage since the 2015/16 campaign, when Maurizio Sarri’s side had collected only six points. The result also continues a difficult period for Allegri, who returned to management at Napoli this season.

The Partenopei began the campaign with two defeats before finally finding some consistency, beating Bologna before Sunday’s draw in Florence. However, they remain ninth in the table on seven points, already six points behind the leaders.
Their poor league start has also been accompanied by a disappointing beginning in Europe. Napoli lost their opening Champions League game against Arsenal at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona earlier this month.
Allegri was visibly frustrated after the draw with Fiorentina and admitted his team must improve when the season resumes after the international break. The Napoli boss now has several weeks to work with his squad before they return to Serie A, but their next league fixture will provide another difficult test.
Napoli will welcome Frosinone to the Stadio Maradona, with Massimiliano Alvini’s newly promoted side arriving with 10 points from their first five matches.
Frosinone have won three of their last four games and are currently three points ahead of Napoli in the Serie A table after their impressive 2-0 victory over Como. For Napoli, the international break arrives at a useful time as Allegri looks to find a solution to a start that has left the defending champions well below their usual pace.
