“I’ve enjoyed every minute since I arrived,” says centre-back
Manchester City have tied Abdukodir Khusanov to a new long-term contract after the defender signed an extension that will keep him at the club until 2031, with the option of a further year.
The agreement follows a breakthrough season for the Uzbekistan international, who became a regular in City’s defence after joining from Lens for £33.5m in January 2025. His previous deal had been due to expire in 2029.
Khusanov made 37 appearances in all competitions last season, recovering from a difficult debut against Chelsea to establish himself as a first-team player. He also started both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup finals and earned praise for his performance against Real Madrid in the Champions League.
The new contract comes as City reshape their defence following the departures of John Stones and Nathan Ake, with the 22-year-old expected to play an increasingly important role under Enzo Maresca.

Khusanov said the extension reflected his desire to continue his development at the club.
“I am really happy to extend my stay at City. I’ve enjoyed every minute since I arrived in Manchester and I feel I am growing and learning a lot as a player.
“I have a new challenge now, which is to impress Enzo Maresca and his staff and ensure I am in his team regularly. I am determined to do that.”
The centre-back also gained further experience on the international stage by representing Uzbekistan at the 2026 World Cup before returning for pre-season.
City’s director of football, Hugo Viana, said the club believed Khusanov’s progress since arriving in England justified the new agreement.
“We’ve been really pleased and impressed by Abdukodir’s development since he arrived in England.
“We’re seeing him grow into a brilliant young man and an outstanding defender, but we know this is only the beginning. His physical and technical abilities are top, he has all the assets needed to be a world-class centre-back.”
