Who did Liverpool bring in and how much did they spend?
Liverpool decided it wasn’t enough to race to the title last season while others were playing catch-up far, far down below. They also had to completely blow other clubs out of the water in the following summer transfer window.
By the time it closed, the champions had committed an eye-watering £446m on new players, the most any Premier League club has ever spent in a single window, surpassing Chelsea’s 2023 record (£434.5m).
Central to that outlay were the two deals that now sit atop the Premier League transfer record. Alexander Isak arrived from Newcastle for £125m on deadline day, while Florian Wirtz joined earlier in the summer from Bayer Leverkusen in a package worth up to £116.5m.
They were joined by Hugo Ekitike, signed from Eintracht Frankfurt for around £79m.
Beyond the headline names, Arne Slot’s squad was also reinforced by adding Jeremie Frimpong (£29.5m) at right-back and Milos Kerkez (£40m) on the opposite side.
Giorgi Mamardashvili was signed from Valencia last year for £29m but spent the season on loan at the same club, and then moved to Anfield this summer. Young centre-back Giovanni Leoni was added from Parma for £26m.
Have the champions covered every position?
For all the terror the attack could bear, many will point to the centre-back position and argue that Liverpool’s recruitment spree left that area under-addressed.
No senior centre-back was signed to complement or replace Virgil van Dijk, should he get injured. Besides the young and inexperienced Leoni, Slot will have to rely on Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez to pair Van Dijk.
Both are talented but have been bothered by injury concerns. Gomez missed some of pre-season through injury and Konate hobbled off against Arsenal last weekend.
This area could expose Liverpool when the fixture list piles up, and the club knew it too, hence their eagerness to conclude a deal for the highly-rated Marc Guehi, but the move dramatically collapsed on deadline day after Crystal Palace were unable to sign a replacement.

Who did they sell?
Having spent next to nothing last summer, Liverpool would not have run afoul of spending rules without sales this summer, but they still engaged in excellent and enviable selling.
The club raked in £187m this summer, slashing their net spend to £228m, less than Arsenal spent this window.
Luis Diaz joined Bayern Munich for £65m, while Darwin Nunez switched to Al-Hilal left for £56.6m.
The club also extracted sizeable fees for players on the fringes. Academy graduate Jarell Quansah fetched £35m after moving to Bayer Leverkusen, Ben Doak’s transfer to Bournemouth brought in £25m, Caoimhin Kelleher joined Brentford for £18m, and Tyler Morton left for Lyon for £15m.
