Academy graduate is open to a move away from Old Trafford after being sidelined
Napoli are considering a move for Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo as the Serie A champions continue to strengthen their squad before the transfer window closes.
Mainoo has fallen out of favour under Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford and has yet to feature this season, having lost his starting place in the side since an injury last December.
The player is reportedly open to a move away after being sidelined, and interest has emerged from clubs both in the Premier League and elsewhere in Europe.
Sources in Italy suggest Napoli are prepared to make a formal bid for the player in the coming days. Naples was also a destination for another United player Scott McTominay last season, with the Scot’s move highly successful after he helped the club to the title last season.
Mainoo is understood to be eyeing a club that can offer Champions League football. Napoli boss Antonio Conte already has McTominay and Kevin De Bruyne in his midfield but wants greater depth for the European campaign.
Another United youngster Alejandro Garnacho is close to a move to Chelsea, with both clubs hammering out a deal worth £35-40m for the 21-year-old.
