The £74m striker joined the club as part of a £200m revamp of Amorim’s front line
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim says Benjamin Sesko has already exceeded his expectations after just two weeks of working with the striker.
The 22-year-old, signed for £74m from RB Leipzig this summer, made his first appearance off the bench in United’s defeat to Arsenal last weekend.
After a fortnight on the training ground, Amorim believes he has seen enough to back Sesko as a long-term success at the club.
“I felt Sesko was even better than I was thinking,” Amorim told Sky Sports. “I have to be careful. I have to be careful, Sesko is going to be our striker for many, many years so we need to put that in his head and let him settle down, to stay calm and enjoy his day because he’s really like you said, obsessed.”
After a poor campaign last season where they finished 15th in the league, United focused their summer rebuild on their front line, with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo also arriving alongside Sesko for a combined cost north of £200m.
However, Amorim played down suggestions that his team should now be expected to challenge immediately for the Premier League title.
“Success is to win titles, and we don’t know if we are going to achieve that,” said Amorim. “We are not in the moment that we can say we are clearly fighting for the league. We just need to get the small steps and the small steps is to prepare every game like it’s a final.”
