Manager says his comfort in Manchester is a factor in keeping his options open

Pep Guardiola has suggested he could extend his Manchester City contract beyond 2027, softening earlier indications that he was preparing to leave at the end of his current deal.

In an interview with Men in Blazers, the Catalan admitted his future is not fixed.

“I still have two years left and maybe then I’ll extend my contract for another two,” said Guardiola. “So the question is whether I’ll stop this year, in two years, or in four.”

The last time Guardiola spoke about his future he did so with much less enthusiasm, emphasising the stresses of the job and that he needed an extended break “to stop and focus on myself, on my body”.

Having taken charge in 2016, the 54-year-old has overseen the most successful period in City’s history, with six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, and a long-awaited Champions League trophy among the honours.

The maestro said his comfort in Manchester was a factor in keeping his options open.

“I love this city,” said Guardiola. “When you spend ten years in a place, it’s because you’re comfortable.”
