Midfielder hails team improvement but warns United “have to win” games
Casemiro has said he is “very happy” at Manchester United despite speculation linking him with a move away from Old Trafford.
The 33-year-old midfielder joined United from Real Madrid in 2022, but saw his form and minutes dip after an impressive first season at the club, as the physical demands of the Premier League began to take their toll.
He has since been the subject of rumours suggesting he could switch to Saudi Arabia, where his friend former Real Madrid and Manchester United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo plays for Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr.
However, no deal has materialised and Casemiro insists he intends to stay in Manchester.
“I am very happy here,” Casemiro told reporters. “My family is happy here. I enjoy every day at Carrington and at Old Trafford. If people talk from the outside, that’s fine, it doesn’t interest me. I just want to focus on winning.”
Casemiro started alongside Bruno Fernandes as the central midfield pair in United’s opening Premier League fixture against Arsenal.
Despite controlling much of the game, United were unable to recover from an early setback that saw Ricardo Calafiori head in a 13th minute corner after lazy defending and a goalkeeping error from Altay Bayindir.
However, United have been praised for their much improved performance after the depths of last season, with the match generally held as a positive despite the scoreline.
Casemiro said: “I’m not going to say that losing is okay, we have to win. Manchester United always have to win.
“I think we have shown good moments, and we played much better [against Arsenal] but we have to look for the victory.
“We are on the right path now. We have a good connection and that’s the path we are taking.”
