Inter Milan has reportedly ended their pursuit of Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman, opting to focus on strengthening their midfield instead.
Inter Milan has reportedly withdrawn from the race to sign Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman, according to Italian sources.
Despite their persistent efforts, the Nerazzurri have been unable to reach an agreement with Atalanta, and the transfer saga has dragged on for almost five weeks.
The Italian club had made two bids for Lookman, initially offering €40 million and later increasing it to €45 million including add-ons.
However, Atalanta’s valuation of €55 million for the Nigerian international proved to be a significant hurdle. Lookman himself has been vocal about his desire to leave Atalanta, publicly demanding a transfer and even refusing to attend training sessions since the start of August.
With the transfer window closing soon, the Nerazzurri are now focusing on strengthening other areas of their squad. According to reports, they plan to invest the €45 million initially allocated for Lookman in a defender and a defensive midfielder.
Inter Milan’s shift in focus towards midfield and defense comes as they prepare for a new season under coach Cristian Chivu.
With a busy schedule ahead, including a Serie A match against Torino on August 25, the Nerazzurri will need to act quickly to strengthen their squad.
