Defender hails renewed sense of purpose among Ruben Amorim’s squad
Harry Maguire believes Manchester United have a “fresh start” as they head into the new Premier League season, following a difficult campaign in 2024-25.
United finished 15th last season – their lowest position since 1974 when they were relegated from the top flight – and saw their year end with a Europa League final defeat to Tottenham that took away a chance of European football.
The club have now embarked on a summer of change, spending upwards of £200m in a completely new frontline featuring Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.
Meanwhile, the club’s Carrington training ground has undergone a £55m refurbishment that has placed facilities for players and staff among the world’s best.
Speaking on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, Maguire said there is a renewed sense of purpose among the squad.
“The lads are working hard, and it’s a great atmosphere in the place,” said Maguire.
“We want to be successful. We’re doing everything we can to be successful. Sometimes, we know it’s not been good enough and we’ve not given our fans as much.
“I feel like it’s almost a little bit of a fresh start and, hopefully, this is a good start.”
