Striker chose to play at Old Trafford despite the current offer of Champions League football at Newcastle

Manchester United’s new Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko has said he wants to help the team “get better” and “fly high again”.

The 22-year-old completed a £74m move to United from RB Leipzig last week and was presented at Old Trafford ahead of a final pre-season game against Fiorentina.

Sesko has just one week to train with Ruben Amorim’s squad before he faces one of the highest-profile debuts ever, against Arsenal at Old Trafford on 17 August.

United will be looking to put their poor 2024-25 campaign behind them and reclaim a spot at the top end of the Premier League.

When asked about his ambitions at United, Sesko said: “Just that we get better, that we connect together, in general, and we, as a team, just try to grow, to grow together step by step because we’re getting better.

“We’re just even more complete and complete. It’s just a matter of time when we can fly high again.”

The striker was given a choice to make this summer as both United and Newcastle were after his signature, but he ultimately opted for Old Trafford, despite the current offer of Champions League football at St James’s Park.

Asked why he chose United, Sesko said: “I think, first of all, because of the club. It’s just a historical club that is unbelievable.

“For me, the team is great. It is getting better and better and that’s why also there is just stuff that makes you come there, gives you this energy that you want to be part of.

“I think it’s a great project, in general, and I can’t wait to start.”
