Chelsea are in talks with RB Leipzig over a potential swap deal involving midfielder Xavi Simons and forward Christopher Nkunku, as part of complex negotiations.
Chelsea are reportedly exploring a swap deal with RB Leipzig that could see midfielder Xavi Simons join the Blues in exchange for forward Christopher Nkunku.
The negotiations between the two clubs are complex, with Chelsea also offering other players, including Carney Chukwuemeka and Tyrique George, as part of the deal. However, any agreement would not be a direct swap, but rather related but separate transfers.
The potential deal highlights Chelsea’s intention to offload attackers to sign new ones in the final weeks of the transfer window.
Nkunku, who joined Chelsea from Leipzig in 2023 for £52 million, has struggled to establish himself in the team and is believed to be searching for more playing time. Sources close to the player suggest he is reluctant to join Leipzig, as he aims to play at Champions League level next season.
Despite Nkunku’s positive performances at the Club World Cup, he has fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea under coach Enzo Maresca. The club is willing to let him go, and Leipzig’s interest in re-signing their former player could facilitate a deal. Nkunku’s potential departure would not only make way for new signings but also generate revenue for Chelsea.
Xavi Simons, meanwhile, is a top target for Chelsea, with the club having already agreed personal terms with the player. Simons’ versatility and creativity on the pitch make him an attractive prospect for Maresca’s team. The deal is reportedly worth around £100 million, with Chelsea valuing Nkunku at £40 million and Simons at around £60 million.
Chelsea’s pursuit of Simons is part of a broader strategy to strengthen their squad. The club is also in talks with Manchester United over signing winger Alejandro Garnacho, having agreed personal terms with the player.
Nicolas Jackson, another Chelsea forward, could be allowed to leave for the right offer, making way for new signings.
The negotiations between Chelsea and Leipzig are ongoing, with both clubs working to reach a mutually beneficial agreement. If successful, the deal would not only bolster Chelsea’s midfield but also provide Leipzig with a quality forward to replace Benjamin Šeško, who recently joined Manchester United.
