Chelsea defender Levi Colwill believes the Blues have what it takes to challenge for the Premier League title, fueled by their recent success and team unity.

Levi Colwill is brimming with confidence about Chelsea’s prospects for the upcoming season. The Blues’ recent victory in the Club World Cup, where they thrashed Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in the final, has sent a strong statement to the football world.

Colwill attributes this success to the team’s unity and determination, which was palpable in their final stretch of the 2024/25 campaign. Chelsea won 14 out of 16 games across all competitions, securing a Champions League spot and claiming the Europa Conference League title.

This impressive run has instilled a sense of progress at Stamford Bridge, a welcome change after a couple of lackluster years.

Colwill believes the team’s recent success is a turning point, showcasing their ability to thrive under pressure. “We had ups and downs like a lot of teams last season,” he said, “but we still stayed around the top four and were never miles behind.” The team’s bond with the fans has been crucial, with Colwill highlighting the electric atmosphere created by their supporters.

One key factor driving Chelsea’s success is the fire in their belly, sparked by being written off by critics.

Colwill recalled the team’s feelings heading into the Club World Cup final against PSG: “It felt like no one thought we had half a chance, even in the final, and I thought that was very disrespectful.” This underdog status fueled their determination, allowing them to prove doubters wrong.

With the new campaign just around the corner, Colwill is convinced Chelsea can compete for the biggest prizes, including the Premier League title. “We feel like we can definitely compete for the Premier League,” he asserted. The team’s squad is packed with top talent, and they’re excited to prove themselves once again.

Chelsea’s youthful squad, with an average age of 23 years and 234 days, is one of the youngest in the Premier League. While this could potentially hinder them, manager Enzo Maresca is optimistic about their prospects.

“For the next five or 10 years, because of the age, the squad, you can dominate English football,” he said. Maresca’s vision for Chelsea’s future is ambitious, and the team’s recent performances suggest they’re on the right track.

The Premier League title race is expected to be intense, with Manchester City, Arsenal, and Liverpool all strong contenders. However, Chelsea’s recent form and squad depth make them a dark horse in the competition.

As Colwill noted, “The players we have in our squad are among the best, and we are really excited for this season, to once again prove people wrong.”
