Mikel Arteta says Arsenal has a big belief in its ability to win a trophy this season, despite a series of near misses in recent years.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is confident that his team can finally break through and win a trophy this season.

After three consecutive second-place finishes in the Premier League and a Champions League semi-final appearance last season, the pressure is on Arteta to deliver silverware. The Spaniard has not won a major trophy since lifting the FA Cup in his debut season in charge in 2019/20, but he has transformed Arsenal into a consistent top-four contender.

The investment in new players this summer has been significant, with nearly £200 million spent on signings like Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi, and Christian Norgaard.

Arteta believes that this influx of talent will help Arsenal achieve its targets. “We know what our targets are and what we want to achieve this season — there is a big belief in our ability to achieve that,” he said.

Arteta’s words convey a sense of determination and confidence within the team. Despite being close to winning trophies in recent seasons, Arsenal has fallen short.

This season, however, the Gunners are determined to go all the way. “We have been very, very close the last few seasons and the whole team is going to determine whether we achieve that or not,” Arteta added.

The manager emphasized the importance of setting internal demands that exceed external expectations. “We have to set the demands that we want within this goal, because that’s the most important thing — the internal demands have to always exceed any external demand,” he said.

Arteta also highlighted the special connection between the team and its fans. He wants the players to feel invincible at home, where they can draw energy from the passionate support of the crowd. “We want our people to start connecting with our players straight away, to start to build momentum and to start to feel that at home we are invincible,” he said.

Arsenal’s Premier League campaign begins on August 17 with a trip to Manchester United.
